The Attorney General’s Office Honors MLK Day

Today, the Utah Attorney General’s Office honors the legacy of a great American, Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King, Jr. devoted his life to the idea – and the truth – that all people, regardless of their skin colors, their family history, or their backgrounds, should be judged by the content of their character. This is the basis of our American Dream that has inspired millions to pine for the shores of the United States as they search for a better life for their children and grandchildren.

Many of Dr. King’s beloved quotes stand the test of time, but especially this one: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” Americans face great challenges these days, and we have more than our share of controversy. The problems our families deal with, as well as the partisan divides between the major political parties, continue to wreak havoc, worry and disunity in our communities. Our hope for a better future regularly fades when we turn on the news or pay for the rising cost of expenses.

Yet, through all these grave issues, comes the promise of a better tomorrow – because, as Dr. King knew, Americans are men, women, and children who always rise above perilous times of challenge and controversy. This is not just Dr. King’s legacy, but it is the great heritage of countless leaders and influencers who have gone before us. No matter what we face as Utahns or as Americans, we will endure and show the world the fortitude of our nation’s resolve, inspiration and commitment to the ideals that Dr. King espoused during his time on earth.

On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, let us re-dedicate ourselves to the principles this great man taught, and may we always look to conquer every challenge and controversy that comes our way.
